Antoni Gaudi

Barcelona's favourite son, Antonio Gaudi (1852 - 1926) was a famous architect whose Gothic Modernist style can be seen all over Barcelona city.

Born in Reus in Catalonia, Gaudi became an architect in 1978. He was a devout Catholic and many of his works draw references to biblical events and charcters. His major works include Casa Vicens, Palau Guell, College of the Teresianas, Crypt of the Church of Colonia Guell, Casa Calvet, Casa Batllo, Casa Mila, Park Guell and Sagrada Familia. Among his works, his masterpiece is the Sagrada Familia which he spent the later years of his life on.

Anotonio Gaudi passed away in 1926 after being ran over by a tram at Placa Sant Felip Neri. He was buried at the Sagrada Familia and is still considered one of the most original and talented architects today.
