Barcelona had humble beginings as a small colony
formed due to its strategic location between Spain
and mainland Europe. It was founded by the Carthaginians
and had spells under Romans, Visigoths, Moors and
Franks. Barcelona raised in importance in the 12th
century due to trade and its position as the biggest
city in Catalonia. It was followed by struggles between
Barcelona and the catalonia region with Spain. Today,
Barcelona is one of the most happening cities in the
world.

in the Eixample district. Located along Paseeig de
Gracia is some of Antonio Gaudi's more famous works,

Slightly east of the Barri Gotic district is the
La Ribera district which has the popular Museum
Picasso.
Finally, Venture off the city center to visit Park
Guell in the Garcia district or Torre
Agbar in the Sant Marti district. Finally, do
not miss out Montjuic
hill or Tibidabo
hill which provides spectacular views of the city.
