Barcelona Metro
Within Barcelona, it is very convenient to travel
around using the metro. Popular tourists destinations
are all situated near metro stations. There are 11
lines in the subway network with 2 more lines in the
works due for completion in the near future. The lines
are operated by Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona
(TMB) and Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya
(FGC).
The metro fares are calculated according to the number
of zones you travel in. The more zones you travel
in for a single trip, the higher the fare will be.
Purchase the T10 ticket which entitles one for 10
rides on the subway or buses for around 7 Euros. Purchase
the T10 tickets at the automated ticket machines which
mostly accepts coins. It is possible to buy T10 tickets
which cover more than 1 zone. It is also worth noting
that T10 tickets cover the Renfe fares to Barcelona
International Airport but not the Aerobus.
The trains serving the subway are mostly quite comfortable
but fairly crowded. Do be careful on crowded subway
trains and public buses as Barcelona is famous for
its pickpockets. Different lines in the city also
use different kind of trains with different levels
of comfort.
