Barcelona Olympic
Ring
The 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games was held mainly
in the Olympic Ring located at Montjuic.
The Olympic ring consist of Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys,
Palau Sant Jordi, Bernat Picornell Swimming Pools,
the National Physical Education Institute (INEFC)
and the Torre Calatrava.
Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys (Olympic Stadium) was
rebuilt in 1989 for the Olympic games and has gone
on to host many other sporting events such as Spanish
Grand Prix, Formula One racing and Spanish La Liga
football matches. It has also hosted a number of pop
concerts and features a museum dedicated to the 1992
Olympic Games.
Palau Sant Jordi is an indoor sports hall and is
now used for indoor sporting events as well as musical
concerts.
The Piscines Bernat Picornell Swimming Pools was
used for the Olympic swimming competitions and is
now opened for public use as a gym and swimming centre.
The National Physical Education Institute is now
a sports university and a centre for sports science.
Torre Calatrava was a landmark and symbol for the
1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. It depicts an athelete
holding an Olympic and was designed by the famous
architect Santiago Calatrava. It was used as a TV
communications tower during the games.
