Barcelona Zoo
Barcelona Zoo is a small zoo occupying about a third
of Parc
de la Ciutadella. It is next to the Museum of
Natural Science and is very popular with kids.
Barcelona's zoo most famous resident is Snowflake,
an albino gorilla who passed away in November 2003
Snowflake was the only albino gorilla known to man
and was between 38 to 40 years old when it passed
away. The average age for gorillas in the wild is
25. It is possible to still see some of Snowflake's
descendents which include 4 childen and 9 grandchildren
in the zoo. His descendents are however normal and
black in color.
To visit Barcelona Zoo, alight at Barceloneta or
Arc de Triomf metro stations and walk to Parc de la
Ciutadella. The entrance fee is 16 Euros. The zoo
opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m. from November
to February, 6 p.m. from March to May and in October
and 7 p.m. from June to September.
