Barri Gotic
Located in Ciutat Vella (Old city in Spanish), there
are numerous winding streets and hidden plazas in
the Barri Gotic. Finding your way around is a huge
challenge as the roads are narrow and confusing
While you are lost in the labyrinth of narrow streets,
you might stumble upon Barcelona
Cathedral, Placa del Rei, Museu
d'Historia de la Ciutat, El
Call and Placa Sant Felip Neri.
Placa del Rei is the square next to the Cathedral
and those interested can visit the Santa Agata Church
and Salo del Tinell (Great Hall in Spanish). Santa
Agata Church was the place where former Kings of Aragon
were baptised while Salo del Trinell was where royal
receptions was held. Visit the tower for a good view
of the whole district. Visit the Palau Reial Major
(Main Royal Palace) to see the residence of former
Kings of Catalonia and Aragon. Located nearby is the
Museu d'Historia
de la Ciutat which shows Roman Barcelona ruins.
If you have time, venture to El
Call (a medieval synagogue) in the jewish quarters
and the Placa Sant Felip Neri, a romantic little square
which holds the location of where Antonio
Gaudi, Barcelona's favourite son was run over
and killed by a tram. A gothic church Sant Felip Neri
still exist at the plaza.
