Voted the European museum of the year in 2006, CosmoCaixa
Museu de la Ciencia is a newly reopened science museum
funded by La Caixa, an important bank in Spain. It
was closed in 1998 and reopened in 2004. It contains
scientific collections and is divided into 4 parts,
Inert Material, Living Material, Intelligent Materials
and Civilised Materials. The 4 parts deal with various
aspects of science from the big bang causing the formation
of the universe to present day science and technoloogy.
Highlights of the museum includes the Flooded Forest
- a replica of the Amazon forest, the Geological Wall
- a walk through the geological history of the world
and the Bubble Planetarium - a place where kids can
gain first hand experience on astronomy. The museum
is highly interactive and very popular with kids
The museum is located near the foot of Tibidabo
and can be reach via train on the FGC Tibidabo station.
A ride on the Tramvia Blau is also needed. Alternatively,
take bus number 17, 22, 58, 73, 75, 60 or 196. Entrance
is 3 Euros and the museum is opened on 10 a.m. to
8 p.m.daily from tuesdays to sundays.
