Montjuic
Mount Montjuic (hill of the Jews) is a hill located
near the ports of Barcelona. Montjuic have hosted
two major events namely the1929 International Exhibition
and the 1992 Olympics. Many attractions were built
for the two events and are still open to public for
visiting.
The most convenient way to get to the top of the
hill is through the Funicular Montjuic. Refer to Teleferico
Montjuic for more details.
Through the Funicular Montjuic, one can visit the
Jardins de Mossen Costa i Llobera located near Avenida
Miramar halfway up the hill. Jardins de Mossen Costa
i Llobera (Cactus Park Montjuic) is a cactus garden
situated on the east side of Montjuic hill facing
the sea. The constant sea breeze allows a mediterranean
climate that is a few degrees lower than Barcelona
city and allows the large cactus collection to thrive.
To get spectacular views of the city, visit Castell
Montjuic which is located at the top of the hill.
Other than Castell Montjuic, it is possible to visit
other attractions nearby like the Jardi Botanic de
Barcelona and the Military Museum.
From Castell Montjuic, one can make his way down
to the Olympic
Ring where the 1992 Olympic was held and visit
the attractions that remain from that event.
To visit the attractions that remain from the 1929
Internation Exhibition, walk further down near the
foot of the hill to visit the Palau National which
houses the MNAC.
Attractions in that area are mostly located around
Avinguda de la Reina Maria Cristina, an avenue leading
from Placa
d Espanya to the Palau National.
Lastly, it is a good idea to catch the Bus Montjuic
Turistic from Plaza Espanya to explore the whole of
Montjuic fully as the bus stops at almost all the
major attractions on the hill.
